Writer's Note

This play, A Thousand Cranes, has been performed thousands of times and has made its way around the world but it has never been performed in Japan. Noriko Ina and the Red Cranes have finally made that possible. The citizens of the US and Japan will forever hold this event in our hearts and minds and whatever our political views, it shakes us to the core. We can never forget that this story is most important for the children who hold the future in their hands.

A Thousand Cranes is about holding hands across oceans, across unspeakable grief, across time.

Let us never forget the children’s prayer : Peace in the world.

「A Thousand Cranes」 (禎子と千羽鶴) は、何千回もそれこそ世界中で上演されているにもかかわらず、日本で上演されることはありませんでした。ノリコとRed Cranes (レッド クレインズ) がついにそれを実現したのです。アメリカと日本の両市民の心にこの過去の出来事はいつまでも残ることでしょう。政治的な考え方がどうであろうと、こうしたことがあったということに、私たちは心の奥底まで揺さぶられます。この作品のメッセージは、未来ある子供達にこそ向けられたものであること忘れてはいけません。

「A Thousand Cranes」 (禎子と千羽鶴) は、歴史を、国境を、そして言うにつくせない悲しみを超え、お互いの手を結ぶものなのです。子供達の祈りを決して忘れることのないように・・・。
